What can I expect from a bartending course?

A bartending course will provide you with a variety of skills to equip you to work in pubs, bars, at functions and other venues. Great bartenders will be able to prepare and serve several requests simultaneously, so learning about a variety of drinks is essential. Some of the modules your bartending course will cover include:

  • Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA): To ensure you can supply and serve alcohol in a safe and responsible manner your bartending course will include a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.
  • Cash handling and operations: Learning how to prepare a bar for service, process customer payments and close down a bar after service are all part of your bartending course. Ideal if you have no previous experience in the industry or just want to refresh your skills.
  • Mixology and serving alcohol: Bartending can be a lot of fun. CHT’s bartending course provides detailed mixology lessons where you will learn about the preparation of alcoholic beverages.
  • Etiquette and customer service: All hospitality jobs have a focus on customer service. The bartending course provides you with the tools you need to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Wine knowledge and serving wine: Whilst you will not be expected to have the detailed knowledge of a sommelier (a specialist wine waiter), a bartending course will provide you with the foundations of serving and suggesting wines for your customers.

How to make the most of your bartending course

Just like any new skill, practice makes perfect. If you are not able to get work as a bartender, practice at home, or even trial some cocktails at a few parties here and there. Confidence is key with bartending, so if you are looking for a new job or looking to impress your current boss, the more you know about what you are doing the better. Make sure to practice the skills you learn in your bartending course, and update your CV with the details of your course.
